We’ve Come This Far By Faith
Opening:
“Little Faith will bring your soul to heaven….great faith will bring heaven to your soul”
The tone of Hebrews 11 discusses the obstacles people face there are greater achievements to be accomplished and a richer relationship with God to be enjoyed
We have some great things to accomplish in life but can only be accomplished by our stubborn faith in God
We should be looking to know and enjoy God in this lifetime
African Americans in the United States have come this far in this lifetime by FAITH not by money, political, or athletic abilities
Sermon Key Points:
Hebrews 11:23-Share that “by faith” Moses mother hid him for 3 months and not afraid to disobey the king’s command
Hebrews 11:24- “By faith” Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter
“By Faith” shows up 19 times in Hebrews 11. What are we really leaving our children behind?
Most people will want to leave their children strong values, morals, good education, and money
This text urges us to leave our children a consecrated heart and the faithfulness of God’s goodness. Share how God has extended his grace to you and your family. “A Spiritual Heritage”
Hebrews 11:1- “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. This scripture means believing that God will bring you the things you hope for.
African American people journey of faith through the years:
The Black Church is the only institution that has safely seen us through abolish of slavery, reconstruction, civil rights movement, Jim Crow, and the new Jim Crow
God has used Black people of faith to help black people get the right to vote, access to housing and education
Jesus is the only way to the Father and rescued us from the slavery of sin. God will liberate you from not only what oppressed you spiritually but physically too.
The Black Church has been the place where social justice was organized and began. The Black Church is the birth canal for greatness in the United States
It was “By Faith” that:
Our institution has been built
Turned legislation around
We mobilize people to march
We funded universities
We have provided scholarships
Our disobedience has been challenged
Our rebellion has been corrected
We has resisted inaccurate theological dogma
The text says we should anchor our faith in God because of what God has done and what God will do
You only need faith to accomplish things that are impossible to get done
Can you say God is still good even if you don’t receive the answer you were looking for?
They knew if they died but they knew it would be a better resurrection
They saw the goodness of God and wanted more than what Earth has to offer
